Main Madeleine Discussion Thread
I thought I would create a post that was a sticky so that discussion can be held here with regards to the disappearance of Madeleine. We have been discussing forensics on the following thread.

I wonder exactly how much significance the PJ under Rebelo placed on the Majorcan holiday?
No mention in the Final report or the legal summary.
No questions posed by the PJ in the Rog letters.
I see the six dead bodies are being mentioned elsewhere as well. Again this is paper talk. I have been through Kates interview on the 6th September and nothing and the final report and archiving process and nothing.
Perhaps I can’t see it for looking but the only thing I can find is the times article

What about the discoveries of the “cadaver” sniffer dog?
Mr and Mrs McCann were shown a police video of a sniffer dog used to find corpses “going crazy” when it approached the hire car. Reports also claim that is discovered the scent on the vehicle’s key fob. Mrs McCann is reported to have explained that in her work as locum GP she came into contact with six corpses in the weeks leading up to Algarve holiday.
This seems a high number for a locum GP working just a couple of days a week but would be easy to check against surgery records.
The crucial difficulty with the sniffer dog “evidence” is that it cannot distinguish between corpses. This type of dog is trained to find bodies, not identify where dead bodies have been. Crucially, they can become excited by other scents.

IIRC the PJ copied KM’s diary. If they did and this article suggests they did:
* FOR months the Portuguese police leaked carefully selected extracts from Kate McCann’s secret diary

I wonder why the diary was not in the publicly released files?

The photocopies of the “diary” do not contain any material of interest to the ongoing investigation, but relate to the personal and inviolable personal experiences of any person.
Accordingly I order the diary’s respective destruction.

Now Sally you have really burst their bubble
The diary was the smoking gun and proved they were as guilty as sin, in some people’s eyes.
When I read Kate’s diary, it seemed to me to be the writings of a mother who has a daughter missing. There were parts in that diary that any mother could relate to, ie the love of their child.

Supreme Court turns down McCanns’ request
18 MARCH 2011 | POSTED BY ASTRO
by Margarida Davim
Kate and Gerry McCann wanted the Supreme Court of Justice to nullify a decision by the Appeals Court that allowed for the book by Gonçalo Amaral, ‘The Truth of the Lie’, to be distributed. Nonetheless, the judges have refused the request.
Former Polícia Judiciária inspector Gonçalo Amaral will again be able to sell the book about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, ‘The Truth of the Lie’, which was taken off shelves after an injunction that was filed by the parents of the little English girl that disappeared in Praia da Luz was accepted by a lower court.
The Supreme Court judges refused the request for an “exceptional review” of the Appeals Court’s decision, which overturned the injunction that had been filed by Kate and Gerry McCann.
The counsellors’ decision may be appealed to the Constitutional Court, but that will have no suspensive effect, which means that Kate and Gerry McCann will have to return every copy of Amaral’s book that they possess.
If they do not comply, they may even incur in a crime of disobedience.
Contacted by Sol, the McCanns’ lawyer, Isabel Duarte, refused to comment on this judicial decision, because she hadn’t been notified yet.

I added a comment to the forensic thread.
So where did the leaks originate? How much was paid by whom to which media?
** to whom by which media
Kate’s Diary
On 14 September 2008, the News of the World published extracts from ‘Kate’s Diary’. The newspaper claimed that the 135-page ‘journal’, written on an A4 pad, had been passed to them by a Portuguese reporter.
When it became apparent that Kate had not given authorisation for its release, the online article was instantly removed. Both The Sun and the News of the World published apologies and made an undisclosed payment to Madeleine’s Fund.
Portugal’s best-selling daily newspaper ‘Correio da Manhã’ had already serialised extracts from the diary during July 2008 without comment from the McCanns.

Diary does not seem to be in public domain (as it seems to have been deemed irrelevant to investigation & therefore private).
So… CdeM and NOTW seem to have got access… via?
Know who my bets on.
Lol Sally.

Re the “never leave kids under 12 alone for more than a few minutes”… how does that work in real life?
Trying to think:
- If you have children under the age of 12 and you happen to be constipated, make sure that your kids are all gathered in the toilet until the great moment.
- Ditto if you’re likely to have sex that may last more than “a few minutes”. So all kids under 12 should be assembled in the bedroom?
- Or digging up weeds in the garden, or anything else.
Different situation. Family & friends over for the night. Young kids put to bed on top floor. All sound asleep. Music, etc., downstairs. One person goes up to check that all’s okay every 1/2 hour. All goes well, or there’s a problem and someone attends to the problem.
The alternative is?
Another example. you’re a single parent & have loads of laundry to do in a communal area at a set time. What do you do? Wake up all your kids, drag them with you, for each load, while you shove load from washing to dryer every 20 mins?
I have read stories about parents leaving small children alone to go on rave parties that can last for an entire weekend or more. No idea whether these are true or not. If so, these children are – should be – taken into care
